Celebrating Student Excellence

Papakura High School student, Hine Fungavaka, receives her Overall Academic Excellence award for online learning, from Kōtui Ako VLN Secondary Deputy e-Principal, Susan McCarthny

Kōtui Ako VLN Secondary Awards

Each year we recognise the achievement and effort of those secondary students who have excelled in their course of study. This year over 180 students gained recognition for their achievements and commitment to their online learning. Having been nominated for these awards from their respective e-teachers and e-deans, students received a special Certificate from Kōtui Ako VLN, and acknowledgement from their schools at their prizegivings.

The Kōtui Ako VLN Secondary Leadership team also recognised those students who were the highest achieving within their NCEA level of study. This year the recipients of the Overall Academic Excellence awards were:

NCEA Level l: Alexis-Mae Grove & Riley Grove, Wairarapa College

NCEA Level 2: Annabelle Hutchinson-Wong, Thames High School

NCEA Level 3: Hine Fungavaka, Papakura High School

Our supreme award this year went to Hine Fungavaka, a well-deserving Year 13 student from Papakura High School. Hine had studied online with Kōtui Ako for several years, and this year studied 3 courses online, Mathematics with Statistics, Chemistry and Psychology, along with her other in-school courses; a tremendous accomplishment.

Hine was presented with a special award and gift at her school’s Academic Prizegiving by Kōtui Ako VLN Secondary Deputy e-Principal, Sue McCarthny. Hine was also awarded Dux of Papakura High School, much to the delight of her whānau, teachers and peers.

Hine’s teachers describe her as a confident and diligent student who has been a pleasure to teach. We would have to agree, and we wish Hine all the very best in her future endeavours.
