What is involved for schools and kura?
Becoming a member of Kōtui Ako VLN involves a membership and resourcing commitment each year. In return a school has the opportunity to access all of the courses that the learning exchange has to offer.
Membership Costs:
-
0.08 FTTE + $2000
Resourcing contribution:
• an e-teacher (a teacher capable of teaching one course online; 4-5 hrs/week = 0.2 FTTE)
• an e-dean (a person/teacher for pastoral support/liaison for your students taking part)
What is involved for ākonga?
Students are required to
-
attend a 1 hour, video conference lesson, with their e-teacher each week, via their own digital device;
-
access and engage with the follow-up learning tasks and assessments provided by the e-teacher, via an online medium, e.g Google Classroom, Microsoft OneDrive, email etc.
What are the benefits?
Schools gain access to a wide range of programmes, including NCEA.
This is particularly beneficial where:
-
a subject is not offered at the school;
-
a student has a timetable clash;
-
a student needs a specialist subject of interest or strength;
-
viability of numbers makes it difficult for a school to offer a particular subject;
-
there is no qualified teacher for that subject/level at the school
